What not to eat on Mounjaro?
Nothing is strictly forbidden on Mounjaro, but with slower stomach emptying your body quickly hits back at certain foods. The list below comes from patient guidelines and leaflets: no rules, but patterns that cause symptoms for many people. This is guidance, not medical advice.

The four biggest triggers
Fatty and fried food sits longest in your stomach and most often causes nausea and reflux. Alcohol acts unpredictably because it is absorbed differently with slow emptying. Fizzy drinks bloat your already full stomach further. And large portions in one go are the fastest route to vomiting: stop at the first full feeling, even if your plate is half full.
- Fried food, fatty sauces, fatty meat and rich snacks.
- Alcohol, especially on an empty stomach or as an aperitif.
- Cola, beer, sparkling water in big glasses with meals.
- Spicy food and very sweet desserts on sensitive days.
What sits well
Lean protein (chicken, fish, eggs, quark, tofu), boiled or steamed vegetables, rice, potato, oatmeal and fruit. Cooking in a little oil, steaming, boiling and oven cooking are kinder than deep-frying. Soups and broth count as fluids and as a mild meal.
Does Mounjaro differ from Ozempic here?
Nutrition advice is nearly identical for all GLP-1 medication: small, protein-rich, low fat, enough fluids. What sits worst differs per person. Track for a week what causes symptoms and adjust to that, instead of cutting whole food groups.
Short answers
Frequently asked questions
Can you drink alcohol on Mounjaro?
Caution is advised: with slower stomach emptying, alcohol can hit differently and unpredictably. Better not on an empty stomach, keep it small and ask your doctor if in doubt.
Why does fatty food sit so heavily on Mounjaro?
Fat slows stomach emptying by itself. Together with the medication a fatty meal sits extra long, causing nausea, reflux and bloating.
Should I cut carbs?
No. Wholegrains, rice, potatoes, fruit and pulses provide fibre and energy. Rather limit added sugars and fried snacks than all carbs.
